If you run the Application Center 2000 Add Cluster Member Wizard to add a server to a cluster, after you click finish, the Wizard may fail and display the error message:

Application Center 2000 returns this general error message instead a more descriptive message indicating the actual source of the problem.

WorkaroundCheck the static IP addresses assigned to your front-end network interface card (NIC) and make sure that you have the same IP subnet mask as you have on the cluster controller's front-end NIC and that the static IP address (if any) assigned to the front-end NIC does not match any of the IP addresses assigned to the cluster controller's front-end NIC.
You must not assign any static IP addresses to the front-end NIC on a server that you intend to add to this cluster or you must recreate the cluster with at least two static IP addresses on the front-end NIC of the cluster controller.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This bug was corrected in Application Center 2000 Service Pack (SP) 1.
