Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry SYMPTOMS
When you view the thumbnail of an image file in Microsoft Windows Explorer or the Open dialog box of a Microsoft Office program, the thumbnail image is not displayed. CAUSE
This problem can occur in the following situation:
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, add the ShellEx keys and the corresponding values for the image files to the Windows Registry. To do this, follow these steps. Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

When you remove Photo Editor from Office 2000 or Office XP on a Windows 2000-based computer, the following images may no longer appear in Thumbnail view:
Graphic Interchange Format (.gif)
Windows Bitmap (.bmp) image files do appear in Thumbnail view.
