Fatal Error on SMTP Server When Receiving Mail from Sendmail

When a Windows 2000-based Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server is receiving mail from Sendmail version 8.11 or later, the server may return a fatal error.

This behavior occurs because when Sendmail version 8.11 or later is configured with outbound authentication credentials, it sends AUTH= on the MAIL FROM command line if the sender has been authenticated. However, a Windows 2000-based SMTP server does not support the AUTH= parameter on the MAIL FROM SMTP command line.
