"Not Enough Storage" Error Message When You View Properties of Virtual Directories After Deleting an ACE

SYMPTOMS

When you delete an access control entry (ACE) and then attempt to use Exchange System Manager (ESM) to view the properties of virtual directories on a server that uses Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP), you receive the following error message:

Not enough storage is available to complete this operation.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because there is a security identifier (SID) in Nntpsvc/virtualserverID that cannot be mapped to a valid account after you delete the ACE.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use either ESM or the Access Control List (ACL) Editor to manually delete the invalid SID entry.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
