SUMMARY

Microsoft has released a security rollup for Internet Explorer 5.01 that includes fixes for the following problems:
  • The problem that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
    299472  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299472/EN-US/ ) Internet Explorer Vulnerability Affects the Way Digital Certificates from Web Servers Are Validated
  • The problem that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
    299474  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299474/EN-US/ ) Internet Explorer Vulnerability Affects the Displayed URL for a Web Page
  • Two new variants of a previously discussed vulnerability, the "Frame Domain Verification" vulnerability, which was originally discussed in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS00-033 (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS00-033.asp) . Like the original version, these new variants of the vulnerability could enable a malicious Web site operator to open two browser windows, one in the Web site's domain and the other on the user's local file system, and to pass information from the latter to the former. This could enable the Web site operator to read any file that could be opened in a browser window on the user's local computer.
  • IE may bring up "Enter Network Password" dialog multiple times when accessing a secure website. Once fix is applied, then "Enter Network Password" dialog only appears the first time.
