Description of the system requirements for Visio 2002

This article describes the system requirements for versions of Microsoft Visio 2002:

• Visio 2002 Standard
• Visio 2002 Professional

Visio 2002 requires specific hardware and software components for all features to be installed and to run properly.

Hardware

• Standard: Personal or multimedia computer with a Pentium 166 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor
  
  Professional: Personal or multimedia computer with a Pentium 200 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor
• CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive (3.5-inch disks not available)
• VGA (640 x 480) or higher-resolution monitor with 256 colors; Super VGA (800 x 600) recommended
• Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing device

Operating System

• Microsoft Windows 98
• Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)
• Microsoft Windows NT Version 4.0 with Service Pack 6 (SP 6) or later
• Microsoft Windows Terminal Server
• Microsoft Windows 2000

Memory

• Using Windows 98 and Windows Me: 24 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM) for the operating system, plus an additional 8 MB of RAM for each program running simultaneously (8 MB each for Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft FrontPage)
• Using Windows NT Workstation or Server 4.0 or later with SP 6: 32 MB of RAM for the operating system, plus an additional 8 MB of RAM for each program running simultaneously (8 MB each for Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft FrontPage)
• Using Windows 2000 Professional: 64 MB of RAM for the operating system (256 MB of RAM for Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server), plus 8 MB of RAM for each program running simultaneously (8 MB each for Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft FrontPage)

Additional Components Required for Some Features

• Modem: 9,600 kilobits per second (Kbps) modem; 14,400 Kbps or higher recommended
• Multimedia: Multimedia computer required for sound and other multimedia effects
• E-mail: Microsoft Exchange, Internet SMTP/POP3, IMAP4, or other
• MAPI-compliant messaging software
• Internet: Some Internet functionality may require Internet access and payment of a separate fee to a service provider; local charges may apply

Each type of Visio 2002 installation requires a different amount of hard disk space:

• Visio 2002 Professional Complete: 170 MB
