OL2002: How Outlook 2002 Protects You From Viruses Contained in HTML Messages

To protect you from viruses that might be contained in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) messages, both scripts and ActiveX controls contained in HTML messages are deactivated automatically regardless of the security zone setting.

To work around this protection, you can do the following steps if the security zone is set to Restricted Site:

1. Open Outlook.
2. Open the message, and then click on View in Internet Zone on the View menu.
3. Click Yes when you receive the following prompt:
   Do you want to run this script?

The Script of ActiveX control is now able to run.


By default, the security zone is set to Restricted Site in Outlook 2002.

Use the following steps to change the security zone setting:

1. Open Outlook.
2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
3. Click the Security Tab, and then select the zone from the Secure Content box.
