Port Numbers Are Missing from URL of Web Sites Assigned to Security Zones

SYMPTOMS

When you assign a Web site whose Uniform Resource Locator (URL) contains a port number to a security zone in Microsoft Internet Explorer or in Windows Internet Explorer, you may find that the port number is missing from the URL the next time that you view the Web sites list for that zone.

For example, if you type http://MyWebSite:8080 in the Add this Web site to the zone box of the Restricted sites dialog box, click Add, and then click OK to add it to the Restricted sites zone, the URL is displayed as http://MyWebSite in the Web sites list the next time that you open the Restricted sites dialog box.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you assign a Web site whose URL contains a port number to the Local intranet, Trusted sites, or Restricted sites zones. Internet Explorer removes the port number from the Web site's URL after the Web site is added to the security zone.

To assign a Web site to a security zone in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Security tab.
Under Select a Web content zone to specify its security settings, click one of the following security zones: Local intranet, Trusted sites, or Restricted sites.
Click Sites.
If you selected Local intranet in step 3, click Advanced. If you selected Trusted sites or Restricted sites, go to step 6.
Under Add this Web site to the zone, type the URL for the Web site that you want to add, click Add, click OK, and then click OK again.

NOTE: You cannot add Web sites to the Internet zone, which includes everything that does not belong to any other zone and is not on your local computer.
