The Windows XP "Windows and Buttons" Settings Are Not Available for the 64-Bit Versions

SYMPTOMS

On the Appearance tab in the Display Properties dialog box, only Classic Windows is listed in the Windows and Buttons drop-down list; Windows XP Style is missing from the list.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Themes service is not installed on Windows XP 64-bit editions.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

The 64-bit versions of Windows XP does not include the Windows XP Luna theme, nor are there any new Windows and Buttons themes that are supported in the Itanium-based versions.

The Windows XP 64-bit versions do include the new Start menu.
