SYMPTOMS

When you create and post a Web page by using Publisher 2002, the size of the Web page is larger than a similar Web page that was created by using an earlier version of Microsoft Publisher.

The Web page can be as many as 25 times larger than the page that was created in an earlier version of Publisher. This increased size can cause pages to upload and download slowly over 56K modems. It can take five minutes or longer to view a Web page or upload a Web page to a server.

CAUSE

Microsoft Publisher 2002 writes additional information into the HTML file that provides Publisher 2002 with round tripping functionality. This extra information increases the size of a Publisher 2002 Web page.

Round tripping is the ability to save a Publisher file (*.pub) as a Web page (*.htm) and then reopen the Web page as a Publisher file, without losing any Publisher features that are not directly supported by HTML.
