FIX: Server Shutdown When Processing a Cube with Private, Virtual, and Shared Dimensions

SYMPTOMS

Attempting to process a cube that has the following combination of dimensions:
  • Two private dimensions
  • A virtual dimension based on a member property from the private dimension
  • A shared dimension with some type of security restriction
can shut down the Analysis Services server and return an error message that resembles the following:
Analysis Server Error: Connection to the server is lost; Time:4/26/2001 3:56:08 PM
Error(-2147221411): Process operation failed; Time:4/26/2001 3:56:08 PM
Error(-2147221423): Could not open server object (Internal (Database 'FoodMart 2000' could not be opened on the server)); Time:4/26/2001 3:56:08 PM
Rolling back transaction in Database 'FoodMart 2000'
Unable to rollback transaction. No transaction is currently in progress.; Time:4/26/2001 3:56:08 PM
Error(-2147221411): Process operation failed; Time:4/26/2001 3:56:08 PM
There is no way to restart the server until the .odb file for that particular database has been deleted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (the Analysis Services Components - Sql2kasp1.exe). For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services version 8.0. This problem was first corrected in the Analysis Services Components of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.
