Error 0xc0000005 Occurs When You Install Windows Media Encoder

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Windows Media Encoder, you may receive the following error message:
wmenc.exe application error.
The application failed to initialize properly 0xc0000005. Click OK to terminate the application.

CAUSE

This error message can occur when you install Windows Media Encoder on a computer that has a capture card, which is not certified for use with Windows Media Encoder, such as the Osprey 1000.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, uninstall the drivers for the capture card, remove the card from the computer, and then reinstall the Encoder.
