XADM: Error Message: The Dynamic Link Library Exchmem.dll Could Not be Found in the Specified Path

SYMPTOMS

When you launch the Exmerge utility (Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Merge Wizard), you may receive the following error message:
The dynamic link library Exchmem.dll could not be found in the specified path C:\Program Files\Exchange 2000 Server Resource Kit\tools\admin\exmerge;;C:\WINNT\System32;C:\WINNT\system;C:\WINNT;C:\WINNT\system32;C:\WINNT;C:\WINNT\System32\Wbem.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when the Exchmem.dll is not in a folder specified by the path listed in the "Symptoms" section.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, use any of the following methods:

Method 1:

Copy the Exchmem.dll to the Exmerge folder, or one of the other folders specified in the error message.


Method 2:

At a command prompt, run Exmerge.
  1. At a command prompt, change to the Exchsrvr\Bin folder.
  2. Run Exmerge by specifying the path to the Exmerge executable.

Method 3:

After you modify the path to include the Exchsrvr\Bin folder, at a command prompt, run Exmerge.
  1. At a command prompt, obtain the current path by typing path, and then press ENTER.
  2. Copy the current path, and then add the path of the Exchsrvr\Bin folder to the current path.
  3. Change to the Exmerge folder, and then run Exmerge.exe from there.

Method 4:

Modify the System Environment Variable to include the path to the Exchsrvr\Bin folder.
  1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Environment Variables.
  3. Locate the System Variables section (lower part of the dialog box), locate the Path variable, and click Edit.
  4. At the end of the Variable Value string, type a semicolon (;) followed by the path to the Exchsrvr\Bin folder, and then click OK.
