Visio2002: "General Protection Fault Visio32" Error Message When You Attempt to Print a Drawing

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to print a Microsoft Visio drawing, you may receive the following error message:
General Protection Fault Visio32
Visio has caused an error in HPCOLOR.DLL.
Visio will now close.
If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you attempt to print to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) DeskJet 500c printer.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, set the Print Color property to something other than Black Text or Color Graphics. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Print, select HP DeskJet 500c as the printer, and then click Properties.
  2. In the HP DeskJet 500c Document Properties dialog box, click Automatic, and then click OK twice.
