PIP/Works: Error Message: Setup Cannot Make Calendar Holiday Registry Entries

If you trying to install any of the programs listed above on Windows 2000 or Windows XP, you may receive the following error message:

This error happens when there are insignificant permissions in the Windows Registry to allow a user to install any of the programs listed above.

To resolve this issue, assign your user profile full control permissions for the Picture It! and Works registry keys. Use the appropriate resolution for your computer's operating system.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Windows 2000

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

1. Quit all programs running on your computer.
2. Log into Windows 2000 with Administrator rights.
3. Click Start, click Run, type REGEDT32, and then click OK.
4. Locate and select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
5. Double-click the Software folder, and then double-click the Microsoft folder.
6. Select the Picture It! Publishing folder, click Security, and then click Permissions.
7. In the list select your user profile, and then next to Full Control, select Allow.
8. Click Advanced, and then verify your user profile is selected.
9. Click View/Edit, select Apply these permission to objects or containers (or both) in this containers only, and then click OK.
10. Select Reset Permission on all child objects and turn on propagation of inheritable permissions, click Apply, and then click OK.
11. Click Apply, and then click OK again.
12. Repeat steps 6 through 11 for the Works and Works Suite folders.

NOTE: Do NOT remove these Registry keys as part of removing the program. If these keys are removed and the program is reinstalled, the Permissions will automatically be set back to a limited state.

Windows XP

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

1. Quit all programs running on your computer.
2. Log into Windows XP with Administrator rights.
3. Click Start, click Run, type REGEDIT, and then click OK.
4. Locate and select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
5. Double-click the Software folder, and then double-click the Microsoft folder.
6. Select the Picture It! Publishing folder, click Edit, and then click Permissions.
7. In the list select your user profile, and then next to Full Control, select Allow.
8. Click Advanced, and then verify your user profile is selected.
9. Click Edit, select Apply these permission to objects or containers (or both) in this containers only, and then click OK.
10. Select Reset Permission on all child objects and turn on propagation of inheritable permissions, click Apply, and then click OK.
11. Click Apply, and then click OK again.
12. Repeat steps 6 through 11 for the Works and Works Suite folders.
