FIX: COM+ Dispenser Manager Enlists New Connection When Free Connection Already Exists

SYMPTOMS

When a connection needs to be allocated during a transaction, the Dispenser Manager always searches the list of free connections. As a result, the Dispenser Manager may enlist a new connection in the transaction even if free connections are already enlisted in that transaction.

This has two side effects:
  • It appears that connection pooling does not work with Microsoft Transaction Server or COM+ because new connections are opened and enlisted in the transaction.
  • Databases such as Oracle and DB2 may encounter enlistment failures.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
