How to Remove MSMQ Queues After You Remove Mobile Information Server

Typically, you use the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel to remove Mobile Information Server. After you do so, you can reinstall Mobile Information Server. However, if you also delete Mobile Information Server accounts when you remove Mobile Information Server (such as the Microsoft Mobility Admins account), you must also manually delete Mobile Information Server-related queues.

In this case, after you remove Mobile Information Server (including SMS Connector), you must use the Computer Management snap-in to manually remove the Mobile Information Server queues and SMS Connector queues that are listed in the following tables:

NOTE: You should also remove any queue that has been created during the administration of SMS Connector. It is impossible to predict the name of such queues; the name could be a name such as "mmisgenericasyncconnectorresponsequeue".

The Mobile Information Server queues are created by Mobile Information Server during Setup. Mobile Information Server Setup also creates the Default SMSGW Outbound Queue. Other queues may be created during administration of SMS Connector. Because the queues may contain useful messages, you must manually delete these queues; they are not deleted automatically when you remove Mobile Information Server.

To manually delete queues:

1. On the server from which you just removed Mobile Information Server, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
2. Start the Computer Management snap-in, click to expand Services and Applications, click to expand Message Queuing, and then click to expand Private Queues.
3. For each Mobile Information Server-related queue (refer to the preceding table), follow these steps:
   1. Click to expand a queue, and then click Queue Messages in the console tree under that queue (messages in the queue are displayed in the details pane). Check that the queue you are about to remove does not contain important messages.
   2. In the console tree, right-click the queue, and then click Delete.
4. Repeat steps 3a and 3b for each queue you want to delete.
5. Quit the Computer Management snap-in.
