Service Pack 2 Installation Does Not Remove SP1 from Add/Remove Programs List

SYMPTOMS

After you use the Update.msi file to upgrade from Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2), Service Pack 1 remains in the list of currently installed programs in the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
