SYMPTOMS

In a Win32 process, calls to COM servers (both in-process and out-of-process) stop working after earlier calls to methods in the Microsoft.DiskQuota COM object. When this occurs, no consistent error HRESULT value is returned.

CAUSE

This problem can occur when the Microsoft.DiskQuota COM calls the CoFreeUnusedLibraries API when it is released by a client process. A call to this API results in all COM libraries being unloaded from a process. These libraries are in use (or required) by the process to do its work, and because of this, COM calls in the process do not work. Only the client process should call this API when it interprets that the COM libraries are no longer needed.
