You Cannot View the Contents of a Compressed Folders in the Temporary CD Writing Area

SYMPTOMS

If you copy a compressed folder, such as a .zip file, to a CD-R or CD-RW drive, you cannot view the contents of the compressed folder while it is in the Temporary CD Writing area.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the contents of a compressed folder are not viewable while it is in the Temporary CD Writing area.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, view the contents of the compressed folder and extract any necessary files before you copy them to the CD-R or CD-RW drive, or after the file has been written to the CD.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

After the compressed folders are written to CD, you can open and view them as usual.
