PUB2002: Form Control Objects Are Misaligned When Saved as Filtered HTML

When you view your Web page, form control elements--such as check boxes, option buttons, and text boxes--may not be aligned correctly. They may appear in the wrong place on the page or may overlap other elements on the page. These controls are displayed incorrectly when they are exported as filtered HTML, when previewed as a Web page, or when sent as e-mail.

NOTE: If you do not have the Export as Web Page command listed under the File menu in Publisher 2002, the information in this article does not apply to your Web page. The Export as Web Page command, which is included in the Publisher 2002 public update, allows you to save a Web page as filtered HTML, enabling you to generate smaller Web pages. However, the filtered HTML that is generated by this command cannot correctly display the form controls that are generated by Publisher 2002.

To resolve this problem, ungroup the form control elements, and they will be displayed correctly. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Open a publication that contains form control objects that you intend to export as Web pages, preview as Web pages, or send as e-mail.
2. Click once on a form control object in your publication to select that object.
3. On the Arrange menu, click Ungroup .
   
   NOTE: Grouped form controls may not display the object group icon (it looks like two overlapping squares with seven sizing handles). However, the form controls are grouped, and they can be ungrouped by using the Ungroup command on the Arrange menu.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all of the form control objects in your publication are ungrouped.

You can now use the Export as Web Page, Web Page Preview, and Send To Mail Recipient commands on the File menu.

To work around this problem, save your Web page as a high-fidelity Web page. To do this, follow these steps.

NOTE: Following this procedure results in a substantially larger file size.

1. On the File menu, click Save As.
2. In the Save as Type list, select either of the following file types:
   • Web Page(*.htm;*.html)
   • Web Archive(*.mht;*.mhtml)
3. Name the file and then click Save.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

If the Export as Web Page command is not listed on the File menu of Publisher 2002 on your computer, the Microsoft Publisher 2002 public update is not installed.
