Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You click the General tab in the Lync – Options window in Microsoft Lync 2013.

  • You select the Also turn on Windows Event logging for Lync to collect troubleshooting info check box.

  • You open the Event Viewer window. Then, you click Application under Windows Logs.

In this scenario, Event Viewer does not display the event logs that are sent from Lync 2013. Instead, Event Viewer displays the following error message:

The description for Event ID 1 from source Lync cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event: Lync

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update:

2881070 August 2014 update for Lync 2013 (KB2881070)

More Information

This issue occurs because the .dll files are registered in a path that differs from the path that Event Viewer looks for. Therefore, Event Viewer cannot find the .dll files to convert the event logs to text.
