OFFXP: Error Message When You Use Custom Installation Wizard with Non-Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to use the Custom Installation Wizard (CIW) with a non-Enterprise (Retail) edition of Office XP, you receive the following error message:
The Office Custom installation Wizard cannot use this MSI. See the Office Resource Kit website at http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork for more information about this wizard and the MSIs it is allowed to use.

CAUSE

The Custom Installation Wizard from the Microsoft Office XP Resource Kit can only be used with Windows Installer packages (.msi) that come from Enterprise editions of Office XP.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, create a transform with the Custom Installation Wizard for Office XP. To do this, use an .msi file from an Enterprise edition of Office XP.
