When you press ALT+F4 to quit Microsoft Word and to close all Word documents, Word document buttons remain on the taskbar. When you click one of the buttons, the Word window that appears is damaged (corrupted). When you right-click a document button and then click Restore, you receive an error message similar to the following:
WINWORD.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.

This problem occurs when more than one document is open, and all the documents are minimized at the time you press ALT+F4.

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in the Word 2000 Update: April 25, 2002.

Word Help incorrectly states that you can use the ALT+F4 key combination to quit Microsoft Word. The default command for ALT+F4 is actually FileCloseOrExit.
