SYMPTOMS

When you create a partition in Disk Management, the file allocation table (FAT)32 option is unavailable in the File System menu. The only option that is available is the NTFS file system option.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, format a FAT32 partition:
  1. Open Disk Management and create an unformatted partition.
  2. Assign a drive letter to the partition.
  3. Close Disk Management.
  4. Format the partition by means of Windows Explorer.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
