Symptoms

Assume that you have a computer that has Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 and Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.3 installed. When you create or open a Web Site Project or Windows Azure project, the following dialog box appears unexpectedly:Microsoft Visual Studio

ASP.NET 4.5 in order for the site to run correctly. ASP.NET 4.0 has not been registered on the Web server.
You need to manually configure your Web server for ASP.NET 4.0 in order for your site to run correctly.

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must have Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 installed.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you install the hotfix if the affected files are not being used at the time of installation. We recommend that you close all Visual Studio 2012-related components before you install the hotfix.

Workaround

To work around this issue, click OK when the dialog box appears after you either create a new project or open an existing Web Site Project or Windows Azure project. After you do this, the project works as expected.
