Clip2002: Errors That Indicate the Mstore10.mgc File May Be Corrupted

Microsoft Clip Organizer cannot access information in your collections, or you receive one of the following error messages:

The main catalog, Mstore10.mgc, may be corrupted.

The Mstore10.mgc file stores properties about clips that you import into Clip Organizer. Clip properties include information such as keywords, categories, and thumbnail previews.

NOTE: These errors may also occur for other reasons.

Compact the main catalog. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Microsoft Clip Organizer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Compact.

If compacting the main catalog does not eliminate the error, create a new main catalog by renaming the old one. Note that when you rename the file, you lose access to all clip property information that you added.

TIP: Always rename files instead of deleting them. That way you can return to your original files if the procedure does not work.

To rename the catalog, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
2. In the Search for files or folders named box, type mstore10.mgc. Click Search Now.
3. Right-click your Mstore10.mgc file, click Rename on the shortcut menu, and change the three-letter file name extension from .mgc to .old.
   
   NOTE: If your computer is used by more than one person or has more than one profile, be careful to rename only the Mstore10.mgc file that is in a subfolder of your personal user folder (the folder with your login ID). If you are on a network, ask for help from your network administrator if you do not understand how to find the correct file.
4. Run Clip Organizer.
   
   Clip Organizer creates a new Mstore10.mgc file automatically.

After Clip Organizer creates the new catalog file, you must re-import any custom clips that you previously imported, and retype any clip property information that you manually created.
