OAER: Outlook Quits Unexpectedly After You Send a Message by Using Word Mail

If you send an e-mail message in Microsoft Outlook by using Microsoft Word 2002 as the e-mail editor, Outlook may quit unexpectedly and you may receive the following error message:When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error message that is similar to the error message that is listed at the beginning of this article.

This issue may occur if all the following conditions are true:

• Outlook uses Word 2002 to edit e-mail messages.
  
  In Microsoft Outlook 2002, Word is the default e-mail editor.
• You compose a new mail message.
• You change the message format.
  
  For example, you change the format from HTML to Rich Text.
• You send the message.

To resolve this problem, obtain the Microsoft Word 2002 Update: June 21, 2001. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: To temporarily work around this issue, do not use Word as your default editor for e-mail messages.

To turn off Word 2002 as your default e-mail editor for all new messages, follow these steps:

1. In the main Outlook window, click the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Mail Format tab.
2. Click to clear the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in the Microsoft Word 2002 Update: June 21, 2001.

The Office Error Reporting dialog box appears when an error occurs that results in a fatal event in the program. The dialog box includes a button to send the information about the fatal event to Microsoft. Microsoft gathers information about these types of events in a database to try and identify the cause.
