Font list is blank and there are no fonts are displayed in Publisher 2002

SYMPTOMS

When you try to format a type font, no fonts are available on the font list on the Formatting toolbar. The list may appear blank or may only display the TrueType symbol, represented by "TT".

CAUSE

This problem occurs when your display settings in Windows have been changed, specifically the color scheme for Windows. If the Window Color and the Selected Items color are the same color, the problem described in the SYMPTOMS portion of this article occurs.

Method 1: Turn Off Font Preview

To turn off the font preview option in Microsoft Publisher 2002, follow these steps:
1.In Publisher 2002, click Customize on the Tools menu.
2.On the Options tab, clear the Show font names in their font check box.
3.Click OK.

Method 2: Change the Selected Items Color in Windows

Change the Selected Items display appearance setting in Windows to any other color. The following steps will allow you to turn the Selected Items display appearance setting to black.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
1.From the Taskbar, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2.In Control Panel, double click Display.
3.In the Display Properties window, click the Appearance tab.
4.In the Item drop-down list on the Appearance tab, select Selected Items.
5.Click the Color drop-down arrow to the immediate right of the Item drop-down list, and then click to select Black.

NOTE: Instead of steps 4 and 5, you can just select Windows Standard in the Scheme drop-down list on the Appearance tab.
6.Click Apply, and then click OK.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.  This problem was first fixed in Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 1 (SP-1).
