Windows 2000 Clients Use Multiple Connections When Mapping Drives to a Single Server

SYMPTOMS

A Windows 2000-based client computer that maps multiple drive connections to a single server may cause the server to allocate multiple sessions. The sessions are visible after you reboot the client computer and the drives are automatically reconnected.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the client computer does not reuse its existing connections to the server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

NOTE: Apply this hotfix to the Windows 2000-based client computers, not to the server.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
