EAP Authentication Does Not Succeed When You Use EAP Against Internet Authentication Service

SYMPTOMS

When you use Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) against Internet Authentication Service in Windows 2000, the EAP authentication may not succeed.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur because in Windows 2000, the size of the header information has increased and there is not enough space for the 802.1x encapsulation bytes that are needed to process the EAP authentication.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
