The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has developed an electronic postage technology that allows you to print domestic postage from a laser printer. Third-party software developers have created electronic postage systems in compliance with USPS standards. These programs manage the storage of postal funds, create the stamp image, create the two-dimensional barcode with the address and stamp information, and so on.
Microsoft Word 2002 supports inserting postage directly from the Envelopes and Labels dialog box and from the Mail Merge Wizard. The "Using Electronic Postage with Microsoft Word" white paper details how to create an electronic postage program to insert postage in a Microsoft Word document.
