The Serial Number Is Decremented in DNS When You Reboot the Computer

SYMPTOMS

When you reboot a computer, the serial numbers of the zone may be decremented. This may occur with Active Directory-integrated zones.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Domain Name System (DNS) cannot update the zone information during the shutdown process in the Active Directory database.

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

Hotfix Information

To work around this issue, stop the DNS Server service before shutting down the computer.
