This article describes how an administrator can install an update to the Microsoft Virtual Machine (VM) without user input or notification (silently) and without restarting the computer. One method applies to versions of Microsoft Windows that is later than Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3), and the other method applies to Windows 2000 SP3 and earlier.

Windows 2000 SP3 or earlierThe Microsoft VM is included with Windows 2000 SP3 and earlier, and you can update the Microsoft VM on Windows 2000 SP3 and earlier by using a Windows 2000 hotfix or service pack release.
