PowerPoint 2002 quits when you try to open a PowerPoint file

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open a PowerPoint presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint 2002, you receive the following error message, along with a dialog box that allows you to report the problem to Microsoft:

Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
