SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to insert an AutoCad (CAD) drawing into an embedded Visio drawing, the CAD drawing image may be displayed as a black X.

CAUSE

This problem can occur when the CAD drawing is inserted into a Visio drawing that is embedded in another Visio drawing.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, insert the CAD drawing directly into your Visio drawing. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft Visio 2000, and then open your drawing.
  2. On the Insert menu, click CAD Drawing.
  3. Locate the CAD drawing that you want to insert, and then click Open.
  4. In the CAD Drawing Properties dialog box, click OK to accept the size and location of the CAD drawing.
  5. In the CAD Drawing dialog box, click the option that you want, and then click OK.
After you insert the CAD drawing, you can drag shapes onto it, change its drawing scale, crop and pan it, or hide or show layers or levels.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
