OL2002: Access Violation When You Import an .SC2 File with More Than 255 Attendees in One of the Appointments

SYMPTOMS

When you import appointments with a very large list of attendees from an .sc2 file, you may see the following symptoms:

Microsoft Outlook stops responding and there is an access violation in memory-management while Outlook is importing the appointment.
The Outlook import filter finishes importing Calendar data after it reaches the appointment.

In both cases, parts of the .sc2 file remain unconsidered by the migration process and are consequently missing from the Calendar folder afterwards.

There is a limitation in the ability of Outlook to import appointments with a very large list of attendees from an .sc2 file. There is a limit of maximum 255 attendees for each appointment during import of .sc2 files.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Office XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 1.

MORE INFORMATION

The hotfix limits the number of imported recipients to 254 plus the importer. Recipients above this number are be dropped and not imported. However, the symptoms described in the "Symptoms" section of this article no longer occur.
