Article ID: 305836 - Last Review: January 31, 2007 - Revision: 4.6 Adobe Acrobat does not open .PDF files in the same window with the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer
This article was previously published under Q305836 On This PageSYMPTOMS When you open an Adobe Acrobat .pdf file by using the
64-bit version of Internet Explorer 6, Acrobat opens the .pdf file in a new
window. CAUSE This behavior occurs because Acrobat installs a 32-bit
ActiveX control (pdf.ocx) that enables Acrobat to open .pdf files within the
Internet Explorer interface. The 64-bit version of Internet Explorer 6 does not
support 32-bit ActiveX controls.
RESOLUTION To have Acrobat .pdf files open in the same Internet
Explorer window, use the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer. To open the
32-bit version of Internet Explorer, use either of the following methods: Method 1Click Start, click Programs, and then click Internet Explorer (32-Bit).Method 2Click Start, click Run, and then type the following command in the Open box, and then click OK:C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\Iexplore.exe Where C
is the drive letter on which Internet Explorer is installed.STATUSThis
behavior is by design. APPLIES TO
