FP2000: Error Message When You Create a New Folder in a Web Created with the Microsoft 60 Minute Intranet Kit

When you attempt to create a new folder in a Web that you create with the Microsoft 60 Minute Intranet Kit, you may receive the following error message:

This issue can occur when the Web site or the virtual directory that you create uses only Anonymous authentication.

Microsoft Windows NT requires integrated authentication in order to allow changes to the Web site. This is to prevent unauthorized changes to the Web site.

To resolve this issue, edit the security settings of your Web site to include integrated Windows authentication. To do this, use one of the following methods:

Method 1: Internet Service Manager

1. Log on to the Web server computer as Administrator.
2. Start Internet Service Manager.
3. In the Console Root, expand Internet Information Server.
4. Expand *web server, where web server is the name of the Web server computer.
5. Right-click the Web site or the virtual directory that you want (for example Default Web Site), and then click Properties on the shortcut menu that appears.
6. Click the Directory Security tab, and then under Anonymous Access and Authentication Control, click Edit.
7. Click to clear the Allow Anonymous Access check box, click to select the Windows NT Challenge Response check box, and then click OK twice. If you receive an Inheritance Overrides dialog box, click the items in the Child Nodes list to which you want to apply the new security settings, and then click OK.
8. Quit the Microsoft Management Console.

The next time that you browse to the Web site, you are prompted to enter your user name, password, and domain.

Method 2: Microsoft FrontPage 2000

If the virtual directory has Windows NT Challenge/Response authentication enabled, you can apply permissions from within Microsoft FrontPage 2000. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Start Microsoft FrontPage 2000, and then open the Web that you want.
2. If you receive a Name and Password Required dialog box, enter your user name and password, and then click OK.
3. On the Tools menu, point to Security, and then click Permissions.
4. Click Use unique permissions for this web (if it is not already selected), and then click Apply.
5. Click the Groups tab.
6. In the Name list, click the Everyone item, and then click Remove.
7. Click the Users tab.
8. Click Only registered users have browse access, and then click OK.
9. On the File menu, click Exit.

When you next browse to the Web site, you are prompted to enter your user name, password, and domain.
