This article describes how to use the Windows XP Encrypting File System (EFS) feature to store files in an encrypted format on your hard disk.
Encryption is the process of converting data into a format that cannot be read by others. You can use EFS to automatically encrypt your data when it is stored on the hard disk. The EFS feature is not included in Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. How to Encrypt a FileYou can encrypt files only on volumes that are formatted with the NTFS file system. To encrypt a file:
Word cannot open the document: username does not have access privileges (drive:\filename.doc)
Error Copying File or Folder Cannot copy filename: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use. Troubleshooting
