Article ID: 308480 - Last Review: March 29, 2007 - Revision: 6.3 How to obtain the latest Microsoft XML 3.0 service packThis article was previously published under Q308480 On This PageSUMMARY Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 updates are distributed in
service packs. Service packs help keep MSXML current, and also extend and
update the functionality of your computer. Service packs are cumulative--each
new service pack contains all the fixes that are included with previous service
packs and any new fixes. You do not have to install a previous version of a
service pack before you install the latest version. For example, you do not
have to install MSXML 3.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) before you install MSXML 3.0
Service Pack 5 (SP5) because SP5 contains all the fixes that are in SP1.

DescriptionThe MSXML 3.0 SP2 release offers a number of bug fixes over the MSXML 3.0 release. All MSXML 3.0 releases provide server-safe HTTP access; complete implementation of XSL Transformations (XSLT) and XML Path Language (XPath); and changes to the Simple API for XML (SAX2) implementation, including new SAX2 helper classes with even higher conformance with World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards and the OASIS Test Suite.SP2 is also included in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and Microsoft Windows XP. If you have one of these products, you do not have to apply SP2.
