SUMMARY

If you administer a Windows Server 2003 family domain from a Windows XP-based computer, you may need access to the Help files for the Windows Server 2003. Alternatively, if you spend most of your time on a server that is running a Windows product from Windows Server 2003, you may want to access the Help files for Windows XP to find information to help users. This step-by-step article describes how to share and install additional Help files in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

To install Help files from another Windows-based computer, the following conditions must be true:
  • The Help files that you want to install are configured for sharing.
  • The Help files that you want to install are from the same version of Windows (either Windows XP and Windows Server 2003).

How to Configure Help Files for Sharing

  1. Click Start, and then click Help and Support.
  2. Click Options.
  3. Click Install and Share Windows Help in the left pane, click Share your Help content with others on your network in the right pane, click Shared, and then click Apply.

How to Install Shared Help Files from Another Computer

  1. Click Start, and then click Help and Support.
  2. Click Options.
  3. Click Install and Share Windows Help in the left pane, click Install Help content from another Windows computer in the right pane, type the name of the computer, and then click Find.
  4. Click the Help database you want to install, and then click Install.

How to Use the Additional Help Files That You Installed

To use the Help files from another version, you must switch the Help files that appear when you click Help and Support:
  1. Click Start, and then click Help and Support.
  2. Click Options.
  3. In Windows XP, click Install and Share Windows Help in the left pane, click Switch from one operating system's Help content to another in the right pane, click the Help file that you want to use, and then click Switch.
NOTE: In both Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, you can install the additional help files from either a compact disc (CD) or a network share point.
