SYMPTOMS

When you try to write (burn) files to a CD-ROM in one of the following Samsung CD-RW drives, the files may not appear on the CD-ROM, and you may not be able to add more information to the CD-ROM:
  • Samsung 208F CD-RW drive
  • Samsung 208B CD-RW drive
  • Samsung 206 CD-RW drive
In addition, the CD-ROM that you made in the Samsung CD-RW drive may not be usable on other computers.

NOTE: This issue may not be limited to the previously noted CD-RW drives.

CAUSE

This issue can occur because some CD-RW drives do not properly update their internal table of contents when a CD-ROM is written "Track At Once" and the CD-ROM is not closed.

RESOLUTION

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
322756 How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

NOTE: You must be logged on as a user that has Administrative privileges to make changes to the registry.

To resolve this issue, contact Samsung to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue.

To work around this issue, start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe), and then locate and click the following key in the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE\CDROMXXXX\instance\Device Parameters\Imapi
where CDROMXXXX is the Plug and Play device ID for the CD-RW drive, and instance is a value that is specific to the CD-RW drive. For example:
CdRomXXXX = CdRomSAMSUNG_CD-R/RW_SW-208F_________________FN03____

Instance = 5&18bef761&0&0.0.0
NOTE: The preceding values will be different in different CD-RW drives.

Add the following registry values to the preceding registry key:
Value name: EnableImapi
Data type: REG_DWORD
Radix: Hexadecimal
Value data: 0x1

Value name: OpcNotSupported
Data type: REG_DWORD
Radix: Hexadecimal
Value data: 0x1

Value name: BufferManagementType
Data type: REG_DWORD
Radix: Hexadecimal
Value data: 0x1
Quit Registry Editor, and then restart your computer.

If you are running Windows XP on a HP Pavilion, obtain and install the firmware update for the Samsung 208F CD-RW drive for Windows XP at the following HP Web site:
