SYMPTOMS

After you install Windows 2000, your PCTEL PCI HSP56 V.90/K56flex modem may not function. The modem appears as an unknown device in Device Manager.

CAUSE

This issue can occur because the PCI HSP56 V.90/K56flex modem requires an updated driver to work with Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download the appropriate driver from the following Web site:
http://www.e-tech.com/ (http://www.e-tech.com/)
The correct driver is named PCI56PVP (Windows 2000). If no files are copied during the installation, delete any unused Oem*.inf and Oem*.pnf files, and then perform the installation again.

You can also contact PCTEL, the modem's manufacturer, to inquire about obtaining an updated driver for use with Windows 2000.
