XADM: Deleted Recipient Update Service Causes Invalid Error Messages in the Event Log

SYMPTOMS

If you delete a Recipient Update Service object, several Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) error messages that point to that object may be logged in the Application event log, with the error message "[0x20] No Such Object."

CAUSE

This problem can occur because when you delete a Recipient Update Service object, a notification thread is sent to the Recipient Update Service object that you just deleted. Because the Recipient Update Service object does not exist at that point, LDAP queries for the object are not successful.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2.

These error messages can be safely ignored.

When you create a new Recipient Update Service in Exchange 2000, you may also receive a "[20] No Such Object" error message in the Microsoft Windows 2000 Event Viewer Application event log.
