Windows Media Player May Not Recognize or Play DVD

When you insert a DVD movie into your DVD-ROM drive, the movie may not play in Windows Media Player for Windows XP. The DVD may not be recognized in Windows Media Player, or if it is recognized, playback may not start.

This problem can occur if the media library is damaged.

To resolve this problem:

1. Follow the troubleshooting steps in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

   If the problem is resolved, skip the remaining steps. If the problem is not resolved, continue to step 2.
2. Create a new media library. For information about how to create a new media library, see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

   If the problem is resolved, skip the remaining steps. If the problem is not resolved, continue to step 3.
3. Restore the previous media library by following the steps in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article and renaming the backup version (Wmplibrary_v_0_12.bak) to the previous name (Wmplibrary_v_0_12.db):
