The information in this key is built from the HKEY_USERS key during the logon process. Therefore, all information found in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER key is a copy of the subkey HKEY_USERS\username, where username is the name of the active user (or Default).

Subkeys in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER Registry Key

AppEvents

This subkey contains paths to sound files that are loaded for specific system events (for example, when an error message occurs).

Control Panel

This subkey contains subkeys for Control Panel settings, including information stored in the Win.ini and Control.ini files in Microsoft Windows 3.x.

InstallLocationsMRU

This subkey contains the locations from which programs were most recently installed.

NOTE: MRU stands for "most recently used."

Keyboard Layout

This subkey contains subkeys that contain values that define the current active keyboard layout, which you can set using the Keyboard tool in Control Panel.

Network

This subkey contains subkeys that describe persistent and recent network connections.

RemoteAccess

This subkey contains address and profile subkeys for remote network access.

Software

This subkey contains subkeys describing the current user's software settings and contains program-specific information previously stored in the Win.ini or private initialization files in Windows 3.x.

NOTE: If Microsoft Outlook Express 5.x is installed, an Identities key is created, which consists of subkeys containing Outlook Express account, e-mail, and newsgroup settings. This key also contains the Microsoft Network (MSN) Messenger information if this program is installed.
