It is easier to upgrade a Visual Basic 6.0 project to Visual Basic .NET if Visual Basic .NET and Visual Basic 6.0 reside on the same computer.

As the white paper describes, the first step is to prepare the Visual Basic 6.0 application for the upgrade. If you install Visual Basic .NET on the same computer as Visual Basic 6.0, you ensure that the Visual Basic 6.0 application compiles and works correctly before you try to upgrade the project. In addition, if you compile the Visual Basic 6.0 project on the same computer, you ensure sure that you have all of the dependent controls and libraries for the Visual Basic 6.0 application, which are necessary for the upgrade.
