OFF2000: How to Obtain the Latest Office 2000 Service Pack WORKAROUND To work around this problem, remove the MERGEFORMAT option
from each of your mail merge fields. STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in the Word 2000 Update: April 25, 2002. MORE INFORMATION The MERGEFORMAT option applies the formatting of the
previous result to the new result. For example, if you select the name that is
displayed by the field
{ AUTHOR \* MERGEFORMAT }
and then apply bold formatting, Word retains the bold formatting
when the field is updated when the author name changes.NOTE: When you insert fields by using the Field dialog box (on the Insert menu, click Field), the \*MERGEFORMAT switch is included, by default. To turn this option off, clear the Preserve formatting during updates check box in the Field dialog box.
