Article ID: 312387 - Last Review: March 1, 2007 - Revision: 6.5 The addition of a 64-bit node to a 32-bit cluster is not supportedThis article was previously published under Q312387 SYMPTOMS When you try to add a 64-bit node to a 32-bit cluster, or
add a 32-bit node to a 64-bit cluster, the add process fails during the second
analyze phase, and the following error message is generated:
Computer:servercluster.corporation.com Major Task ID:{EBC8AEFF-10C3-4D5B-AC17-FC0F4C3871B7} Minor Task ID:{2B3F3240-58AE-4F23-A4F8-70E620DABA7C} Progress (min, max, current):0, 1, 1 Description: Comparing processor architecture between the cluster and the nodes being added... Status:0x8007170a This computer cannot be made a member of a cluster. Computer:servercluster.corporation.com Major Task ID:{2B3F3240-58AE-4F23-A4F8-70E620DABA7C} Minor Task ID:{804DCF41-4734-4E84-8CF0-B7C3E4B8E2D6} Progress (min, max, current):0, 1, 1 Description: The node "64-bitnode.corporation.com" does not have the same processor architecture as the other nodes in the cluster and cannot be added to the cluster. Status:0x8007170a This computer cannot be made a member of a cluster. Additional Information: A cluster can only be created using nodes that have the same processor architecture. Your cluster has a "Intel x86" processor and the node you attempted to add has a "Intel Itanium" processor. Remove "64-bitnode.corporation.com" from the nodes list and try again. CAUSE This behavior can occur because mixed-processor clusters
are not supported for server clusters. Cluster resources are either 32-bit or
64-bit, and 32-bit resources are not supported on 64-bit cluster nodes.
STATUSThis
behavior is by design. MORE INFORMATIONFor additional information about a related
